World War 2 Experience Day – Years 5 and 6

Our Years 5 and 6 have had a wonderful day celebrating their World War 2 experience. We began the day with an insightful assembly from Jim – one of our regulars at Poppies Cafe – who volunteered to come and talk to the children about what his experience of WW2 was like. Jim was only 6 when the war started and remembers vividly his experiences until it concluded at age 11 – a similar age to our Griffins now. The children were curious about life during this historic period and thoroughly enjoyed asking him questions.
We were also thrilled to have some historical artefacts brought in from Annabelleā€™s family (one of our Year 5 Griffins) whose great great grandfather fought in Egypt during WW2. We showed a helmet, bayonet and a trench shovel used at the time.
As well as this, our Griffins have been immersed in a variety of experiences including Anderson shelter building, Blitz artwork, baking bread pudding and cracking and creating some morse code.
Thank you to our families for their effort with the childrenā€™s costumes as they all looked fantastic!
