Year 4 had an unforgettable day stepping back into history on their recent trip to Stratford-upon-Avon – the birthplace of the world-famous playwright, William Shakespeare!
The focus of our trip was Shakespeare’s Birthplace, where the children were fascinated to explore the house where Shakespeare was born and grew up. Walking through the rooms helped bring history to life, and pupils were full of thoughtful questions about what daily life might have been like over 400 years ago.
We also visited several other places of interest around Stratford, discovering more about the town’s rich Tudor past and its strong links to Shakespeare’s life and work. The children impressed everyone with their excellent listening skills and enthusiasm throughout the day.
One of the highlights of the trip was our drama workshop, where pupils both performed and watched extracts from Henry V and Macbeth. Year 4 showed incredible confidence, teamwork and expression as they brought Shakespeare’s powerful language and characters to life. It was wonderful to see them enjoying the challenge and excitement of performing in such a historic setting.
A highlight of the day was a range of presentations on historical artefacts, including traditional writing quills. The children spoke clearly and confidently, explaining how these artefacts were used in Shakespeare’s time and making thoughtful comparisons with modern-day writing tools.
Overall, the trip was a fantastic blend of history, drama and hands-on learning, and Year 4 should be extremely proud of their curiosity, behaviour and enthusiasm. It was truly a day to remember!
